Merit Scholarship

The following scholarships are awarded to the eligible students of Higher Secondary and Degree classes –

1. National Merit Scholarship

2. State Merit Scholarship

3. OBC, MOBC, SC, ST Scholarship

N.B. – The disbursement of scholarship money is subject to availability of the fund from the Government.

College Students’ Aid Fund

In order to help and explore the potentials of economically backward students, the college has created Digboi College Students’ Aid Fund in 2004. The Principal invites applications from the economically backward students at the beginning of the session. The Advisory Committee of the fund selects the deserving students on the basis of merit and financial condition. In the year 2013-14 an amount of Rs. 30950.00 was provided as financial assistance to 21 no’s of students during admission.

DCTU Students’ Aid Fund:

Digboi College Teachers’ Unit has decided to provide financial assistance to economically backward students basing on their academic performance, regularity of attendance and good conduct. The concerned students can contact and apply to President / Secretary, Digboi College Teachers’ Unit (DCTU). In the session 2013-14, DCTU has provided financial help to 11 students @ Rs. 1000/- each.

NB:The college authority also provides financial assistance from its internal funds to poor meritorious students for admission into degree programmes.

UGC Stipendiary Benefit & Conveyance Allowance (for Degree Students)

During the session 2012-13 a total of 116 of students received UGC conveyance allowance and 138 students received UGC merit cum means stipendiary benefit. UGC provides these financial grants to the students under following points:

  • Students belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non creamy layer) & Minorities are entitled to stipendiary benefits provided they have 80% or more attendance in classes.
  • Financially disadvantaged Students who have to cover distances (home to college) of 10 kms and whose attendance is 80% and above are eligible to apply for conveyance.
  • There is also a provision of stipend to students belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / Minorities / Physically challenged and financially disadvantaged students on merit-cum-means basis, to be selected by the college for purchasing books, stationery and for incurring contingent expenditure.
  • Allowances under these schemes of stipendiary benefits & conveyance are provided only when necessary grant are available from UGC.

GROUP INSURANCE SCHEME FOR STUDENTS

Life Insurance Corporation of India has launched a Group Insurance Scheme for college students for bringing under the insurance coverage at a subsidized rate of premium. The scheme is offered to the college students under 1 year renewable group term assurance plan. On every annual renewal date, the scheme is to be renewed for getting insurance coverage of the students for their subsequent academics year. This is a unique plan for full time confides student with the age group of 16-25 years with a flat premium of @ Rs. 2.60 for Rs. 1000/- sum assured per student. The scheme can be offered to the students at a minimum coverage of Rs. 10000/- and to a maximum coverage of Rs. 100000/-. The college intends to start the scheme for every student with a coverage of Rs. 10000/- for which a premium of Rs. 30/- will be charged at the time of admission. The benefit under the scheme is that the insured sum is payable to the nominee in case of death of the student during the policy year for which the premium is received. A few have already availed the benefits.
