SUMMARY:Celebration of National Science Day 2024
DESCRIPTION:28th February 2024: \nOn 28th Feb\, 2024\, all the Science Departments\, Digboi College\, in collaboration with IQAC\, Digboi College celebrated National Science Day. The distinguished guest invited for the event were Dr. Deepa Sarma Borthakur\, Principal (i/c)\, Digboi College\, Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, IQAC Coordinator\, Digboi College\, Dr. Jayanta Handique\, Head\, Dept. of Electronics\, Dr. Gauri Buragohain\, Head\, Dept. of English\, Dr. Mrinal Kumar Gogoi\, Dept. of Assamese. Students and Teachers from various department attended the event. About 150 students participated in the programme. \n \nThe program started at 11:00 A.M.\, hosted by Ms. Anindita Mahanta\, Assistant Professor\, Dept. of Mathematics commenced by welcoming the dignitaries on the dais followed by lighting dias as a symbol of tribute to Sir C.V Raman. Dr. Deepa Sarma Borthakur\, Principal (i/c) inaugurated the program formally with an inspiring short speech. Ms. Mamita Kalita\, Assistant Professor\, Dept. of Botany delivered a keynote speech for the event highlighting the theme for National Science Day\, 2024\, ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’. \n \nFollowing the keynote speech\, the dignitaries on the dais\, Dr. Jayanta Handique\, Gauri Buragohain\, Dr. Mrinal Kumar Gogoi\, and Dr. Pabitra Bharali inspired and motivated everyone with a few words on the importance of science learning and keeping a scientific mindset while tackling day to day problems. A presentation on ‘Flipside: The Journey of a Cartoonist’ was presented by Dr. Deborshee Gogoi\, Head\, Dept. of Commerce. In the talk\, he enlightened the impact of human development on Biodiversity and Environment through effective representation using cartoons. His work has been recognized worldwide by the Wildlife Preservation Societies\, NGOs\, and Government. He has worked on the movements like “#IamDihingPatkai”. \n \nA Treasure Hunt Competition was organized amongst the students of various departments of the college with 26 participating teams comprising of 3 members each. For the first time in the history of Digboi College\, such a competition has been organized. The treasure hunt was scattered all around the college campus. Mamita Kalita\, Anindita Mahanta\, Prerona Gogoi\, and Sanat Kumar Gogoi prepared the clues for the hunt. Students needed to find and locate 5 clues in total to reach the final destination of the hunt. This competition boosted their knowledge about the college and also improved their critical thinking and problem-solving ability. Further\, hands-on programs like this enhance the student’s engagement in teaching learning curriculum. The program was centered on the life and achievements of Prof. C.V Raman.  \n  \nThe result of the Treasure Hunt is as follows: \n1st Prize: Rs. 1000.00 only in cash and Certificate:  Department of Life Sciences \nDeb Bahadur Chetry\, Trinayan Baruah and Jigyas Jyoti Moran. \n2nd Prize: Rs. 700.00 only in cash and Certificate: Department of Political Science \nRohan Regmi\, Anwesha Choudhury and Angana Bordoloi. \n3rd Prize: Rs. 500.00 only in cash and Certificate: Department of Physics \nShivam Sharma\, Geetima Kishan and Himani Gurung. \nInspirational Prize: Rs. 300.00 only in cash and Certificate: Department of Zoology \nCherich Taye\, Samrat Morang and Rajesh Rai. \n   \nA student interaction session took place after the completion of the hunt where participating and winning members of different teams interacted and shared their experiences. Almost all of the speakers emphasize on participating in such activities. Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, IQAC Coordinator\, Digboi College congratulated all the participants for their enthusiasm and eagerness to participate in the event. Further\, he acknowledged the organizers Sanat Kumar Gogoi\, Mamita Kalita\, Prerona Gogoi\, Arjun Singh Chetry\, Anindita Mahanta\, and Bhaswati Talukdar for their continuous efforts and creativity in making the event a great success and advised them to host such events in future. Lastly\, he announced that the prizes for the Treasure Hunt Competition would be distributed on the occasion of the International Pi Day Celebration on 14th March 2024. SUMMARY:Poster & Oral Presentation Competition: Celebration of  National Science Day
DESCRIPTION:28th February 2023: The Department of Physics in Association with the Digboi College Students Science Club celebrated the National Science Day 2023 with the Central theme “Global science for Global well being”. The program started with floral tributes to C.V.Raman. The Principal\, Dr. Dip Saikia addressed the students on the significance of the day and the central theme. This was followed by an oral presentation competition and a poster presentation competition both of which were organised parallelly. A total of 20 papers were presented by the students.\nThe program concluded with prize distribution where the Vice Principal Dr. A.C. DESCRIPTION:11th February 2023:  The Department of Physics Celebrated the 8th International day of Women and Girls in Science in a befitting manner at the seminar Hall in the presence of students and faculty members. At the outset Gayatri Thapa\, (B.Sc.6th semester Physics Honours) described the significance of the day. This was followed by Debangshee Paul (B.Sc. 6th Semester) giving a comprehensive account of Madam Curie\, the iconic scientist and Nobel Laureate. \n\nAfter this Dr. Rashmi Patowary (H.o.D) gave a presentation on the Indian women Scientists. SUMMARY:Positive Mental Health- Interative Programme
DESCRIPTION:  \n2nd  November 2022: \nAn interactive program on –“Positive Mental Health” was organized by the Department of Physics\, Digboi College\, in association with IQAC Digboi College on 02-11-2022 at the conference Hall\, Digboi College\, from 2 pm onwards. The program started with the introduction and felicitation of the resource person Mrs. Nandita G. Sarma\, Psychological Counsellor\, Delhi Public School\, Digboi\, by Dr. Rashmi Patowary. \n \nThe resource person gave a lucid presentation of precisely one hour\, highlighting the key aspects of mental health and how to maintain positive mental health. Thanks to the experienced resource person\, who made her presentation lively by giving relatable real-life examples. The session turned out to be highly beneficial with the students’ unhesitant interaction with the resource person. SUMMARY:Freshers Organised by Dept. of Physics
DESCRIPTION:12TH SEPTEMBER 2022: The purpose of the Freshers Celebration is to welcome new students in a friendly atmosphere and to encourage their creative impulses to boost their confidence. It is the day when seniors and juniors finally bond and unite to celebrate being part of the college. Students of BSc 1st semester and MSc 1st semester were welcome by Bsc 3rd and 5th semester as well as MSc 3rd semester students. The students decorated the room very beautifully in order to make a memorable day for the freshers. \n  \nThe program started with Vice Principal Sir’s speech\, followed by our Department’s HOD and all the teaching staff. The program started at 1:30 pm and was hosted by a student of the BSc 5th semester. After the speech\, we had our first dance performed by a student from the 3rd semester\, followed by many other programs. Then we moved on to the gift distributing ceremony\, which was done by our respected teachers.  \n \nWe had a lunch break in between and then continued with the enjoyment. Most of the students took part and everybody enjoyed the program.  We concluded the program by once again welcoming all the freshers to our small family. SUMMARY:Teacher's Day Observed by Dept. of Physics
DESCRIPTION:5th Sept\, 2022:Every year 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ day in India\, which also commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan\, an academic\, professor\, philosopher\, and former vice president and president of India. The purpose behind observing this day is to honor the teachers who eliminate darkness from the minds of the disciples or students and empower them with knowledge. Teachers’ day is observed in schools and colleges with great excitement\, and many events are organized in honor of the teachers. Knowledge is the light to remove the darkness of ignorance from one’s life. This knowledge is passed on from teachers to its students. Teachers enlighten us in many ways and provide guidance in choosing the right path in our life. Dr. S Radhakrishnan believed that teachers should be respected and honored for their valuable efforts as they play a significant role in our society. He said that if we really wanted to celebrate his birthday\, celebrate it as the day as to honor the teachers. After this incident\, every year\, his birthday\, which falls on the 5th of September\, began to be celebrated as Teachers’ day. \n  \n“Teachers are Torch Bearers of the Gen-next” \nTeacher’s day was celebrated by the students of the PHYSICS department (both BSc. And MSc.) in the department of PHYSICS on 5th September to express their gratitude for the immense contribution put forth by their teachers towards their development. Students decorated the department with decorative items on the eve of Teacher’s day\, and the faculties were welcomed warmly. We first initiated the program with the Lamp Lighting ceremony in honor of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan by our respected HOD and all the faculties. Each of the faculties was given a gift as a token of gratitude and an acknowledgment of the hard work put by the teachers towards their development\, wishing them a Happy Teachers Day.  This was followed by the cake-cutting ceremony to make the day more memorable and successful. We had two beautiful cakes\, one of which was especially gifted to the faculties by our MSc. Student\, Miss Saswata Purkayastha. Teachers really enjoyed the cake and gave her an applause as appreciation. It was a fun filled afternoon for the teachers as well as the students. All the juniors cooperated well with the seniors making the event as a fruitful success. The event concluded by again thanksgiving the teachers for their efforts and gratitude. The event went very well as planned\, and a few games were played with our teachers at the end. DESCRIPTION:Inauguration Ceremony\nDate: 7th Jun 2022\, Time 12.30 PM \nDept. of Physics\, Digboi College has published a magazine entitled “PSI” in June 2022. It is a yearly publication by the department which provides an ample opportunity to the students and faculties of the department to express their thoughts and refine their creativity. The magazine is edited by Sangsthita Boruah\, and Biswajit Hazarika\, M. Sc.  4th Semester\, Dept. of Physics. Gayatri Phukan\, M. Sc. 4th Semester has bloomed the magazine with creative design and script writing. Kunal Kaustav Nath\, B. Sc. 6th Semester has designed the cover photo of the magazine which itself is a masterpiece. \nThe department has organized a competition among the students and faculties to suggest a name for the magazine. Dr. Deep Kumar Kuri\, Asst. Professor has suggested the name “PSI” which symbolizes Physics\, Sense and Imagination. Everyone has agreed that this name would be perfect for the magazine and it will represent the motive behind publishing the magazine as George Sylvester Viereck wrote “I am enough of an artist to draw freely on my imagination\, which I think is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” \n   \nThe magazine was inaugurated by Dr. Dip Saikia\, Principal\, Digboi College. He congratulated the department for taking this initiative and inspired the students to be a better physicist\, a better artist\, a better citizen and most importantly a better humane being. In his inaugural speech he talked about bringing science to the doorstep of common people.
