SUMMARY:Felicitation & Interaction Programme: APSC Success Story
DESCRIPTION:23rd February 2024: \nA program of Felicitation and Interaction was organized by the Digboi College Career Counseling and Placement Cell under IQAC Quality initiatives on 23-02-2024. The program consisted of two parts viz. Felicition of alumni qualifying the APSC CCE 2022 examination and interaction of alumni viz. Ms. Jyoti Rani Nath\, Mr. Tilok Dhungana\, Mr. Suraj Kumar Gupta and Ms. Pallavi Saikia with the final semester students. \nThe program started with the assumption of chair by the Principal Dr. Dip Saikia\, Vice Principal Dr. Arun Chandra Dutta\, the IQAC Co ordinator Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, alumni Suraj Gupta and Pallavi Saikia. \n \nPrincipal Dr. Dip Saikia in his address congratulated the alumni and said that he was looking forward to many such successful candidates from amongst the students in the coming years. \nBoth the alumni were felicitated by Phulam Gamosas and an address of felicitation each by the principal. Dr. Pabitra Bharali read out the address of felicitations before offering. The two alumni shared their journey to success in a lucid manner. \nThe felicitation was followed by a highly effective interaction session of the alumni with the 6th semester students. Some relevant questions and observations were addressed by some of the faculty members. The program ended by vote of thanks offered by the IQAC coordinator. SUMMARY:Celebration of National Science Day 2024
DESCRIPTION:28th February 2024: \nOn 28th Feb\, 2024\, all the Science Departments\, Digboi College\, in collaboration with IQAC\, Digboi College celebrated National Science Day. The distinguished guest invited for the event were Dr. Deepa Sarma Borthakur\, Principal (i/c)\, Digboi College\, Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, IQAC Coordinator\, Digboi College\, Dr. Jayanta Handique\, Head\, Dept. of Electronics\, Dr. Gauri Buragohain\, Head\, Dept. of English\, Dr. Mrinal Kumar Gogoi\, Dept. of Assamese. Students and Teachers from various department attended the event. About 150 students participated in the programme. \n \nThe program started at 11:00 A.M.\, hosted by Ms. Anindita Mahanta\, Assistant Professor\, Dept. of Mathematics commenced by welcoming the dignitaries on the dais followed by lighting dias as a symbol of tribute to Sir C.V Raman. Dr. Deepa Sarma Borthakur\, Principal (i/c) inaugurated the program formally with an inspiring short speech. Ms. Mamita Kalita\, Assistant Professor\, Dept. of Botany delivered a keynote speech for the event highlighting the theme for National Science Day\, 2024\, ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’. \n \nFollowing the keynote speech\, the dignitaries on the dais\, Dr. Jayanta Handique\, Gauri Buragohain\, Dr. Mrinal Kumar Gogoi\, and Dr. Pabitra Bharali inspired and motivated everyone with a few words on the importance of science learning and keeping a scientific mindset while tackling day to day problems. A presentation on ‘Flipside: The Journey of a Cartoonist’ was presented by Dr. Deborshee Gogoi\, Head\, Dept. of Commerce. In the talk\, he enlightened the impact of human development on Biodiversity and Environment through effective representation using cartoons. His work has been recognized worldwide by the Wildlife Preservation Societies\, NGOs\, and Government. He has worked on the movements like “#IamDihingPatkai”. \n \nA Treasure Hunt Competition was organized amongst the students of various departments of the college with 26 participating teams comprising of 3 members each. For the first time in the history of Digboi College\, such a competition has been organized. The treasure hunt was scattered all around the college campus. Mamita Kalita\, Anindita Mahanta\, Prerona Gogoi\, and Sanat Kumar Gogoi prepared the clues for the hunt. Students needed to find and locate 5 clues in total to reach the final destination of the hunt. This competition boosted their knowledge about the college and also improved their critical thinking and problem-solving ability. Further\, hands-on programs like this enhance the student’s engagement in teaching learning curriculum. The program was centered on the life and achievements of Prof. C.V Raman.  \n  \nThe result of the Treasure Hunt is as follows: \n1st Prize: Rs. 1000.00 only in cash and Certificate:  Department of Life Sciences \nDeb Bahadur Chetry\, Trinayan Baruah and Jigyas Jyoti Moran. \n2nd Prize: Rs. 700.00 only in cash and Certificate: Department of Political Science \nRohan Regmi\, Anwesha Choudhury and Angana Bordoloi. \n3rd Prize: Rs. 500.00 only in cash and Certificate: Department of Physics \nShivam Sharma\, Geetima Kishan and Himani Gurung. \nInspirational Prize: Rs. 300.00 only in cash and Certificate: Department of Zoology \nCherich Taye\, Samrat Morang and Rajesh Rai. \n   \nA student interaction session took place after the completion of the hunt where participating and winning members of different teams interacted and shared their experiences. Almost all of the speakers emphasize on participating in such activities. Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, IQAC Coordinator\, Digboi College congratulated all the participants for their enthusiasm and eagerness to participate in the event. Further\, he acknowledged the organizers Sanat Kumar Gogoi\, Mamita Kalita\, Prerona Gogoi\, Arjun Singh Chetry\, Anindita Mahanta\, and Bhaswati Talukdar for their continuous efforts and creativity in making the event a great success and advised them to host such events in future. Lastly\, he announced that the prizes for the Treasure Hunt Competition would be distributed on the occasion of the International Pi Day Celebration on 14th March 2024. DESCRIPTION:8th March 2024: \nOn 08th March 2024\, Digboi College Women Welfare Cell (DCWWC) in association with Digboi College Student’s Union (DCSU) and IQAC\, Digboi College has celebrated International Women’s Day\, 2024 with the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”. The occasion was honored with the presence of keynote speaker Dr. Swati Kiran\, Assistant Professor\, Department of Assamese\, Dibrugarh University. She has delivered a talk on “Emotional and Mental health of Women and Indian Society”. \n   \n The celebration was also embarked with two days celebration. On 05/03/2024\, essay competition was held (Topic: Feminism vs Pseudofeminism)\, Elocution competition (Topic: Unshackling the stereotypes-Womenhood) in both Assamese and English language and Cricket competition for female students. SUMMARY:Celebration of International PI Day: Organised by Department of Mathematics
DESCRIPTION:18th March 2024: \nOn 18th March 2024\, the Department of Mathematics\, Digboi College\, in collaboration with IQAC\, Digboi College and Digboi College Mathematical Forum (DCMF) celebrated International Pi-Day. The distinguished guests invited for the event were Dr. Dip Saikia\, Principal\, Digboi College\, Dr. Arun Chandra Dutta\, Vice Principal\, Digboi College\, and Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, IQAC Coordinator\, Digboi College. Students and Teachers from various departments attended the event. \n  \nThe event started at 10:00 a.m.\, hosted by Ms. Anindita Mahanta was commenced by welcoming and felicitating dignitaries on the dais. Mr. Mukul Buragohain\, Head\, Dept. Of Mathematics\, welcomed the gathering and stated the purpose of the program in brief. \n \nThe very first issue of the Departmental Newsletter ‘MathScape’ was then inaugurated by the Principal\, Digboi College\, and all the other dignitaries on the dais. Honorable Principal\, Dr. Dip Saikia encouraged everyone with his words of wisdom and congratulated the Department for this initiative. The newsletter was edited by Ms. Anindita Mahanta\, Asst. Professor\, Dept. of Mathematics and advised by Dr. Arjun Singh Chetry\, Asst. Professor Dept. of Mathematics with the help of all the faculty members of the department. The newsletter depicts the overall growth and activities of the department from the academic year 2021-22 to 2022-23. Further\, the newsletter also highlights the accomplishments of students in other co-curricular areas. The Department of Mathematics\, Digboi College\, dedicated the inaugural issue of the Newsletter in memory of Dr. Amrit Chandra Deka\, former HoD\, Dept. of Mathematics who left for his heavenly abode on 13th April\, 2023. \n  \nThe students from Delhi Public School\, Digboi\, and Little Star Senior Secondary School\, Digboi were awarded certificates of merit for their excellent performance in the Mathematics Olympiad held on 20/08/2023 at Digboi College. The students were Ritwik Guru\, DPS\, Digboi\, Shehjanur Rahman\, DPS\, Digboi\, and Ayushi Agarwal\, Little Star Senior Secondary School\, Digboi. Dr. Arun Chandra Dutta\, Vice Principal\, Digboi College presented the award. \n   \nDr. Jatindra Lahkar\, Associate Professor\, Dept. of Mathematics\, delivered a talk on the “Importance of Pi and significance of the day.” He highlighted the origin of the number Pi and its uses. Further\, he talked about the significance of the International Pi Day and its celebration across the globe. A Pi memorization and recitation competition was then conducted amongst the students by Dr. Binod Chetry\, Asst. professor\, Dept. of Mathematics. Students were given 5 minutes to remember the digits of Pi after decimal as much as they could and then recite it. The result of the Pi recitation competition was as follows: \n1st Prize: Akash Deep Saikia\, Dept. of Chemistry\, recited 50 digits of Pi. \n2nd Prize: Ayushi Agarwal\, Little Star Senior Secondary School recited 38 digits. \n3rd Prize: Rohit Sharma\, Dept. of Chemistry\, recited 33 digits.  \n4th Prize: Kushbu Kumari Agarwal and Sompreeti Borthakur\, Dept. of Mathematics\, recited 32 digits. \n5th Prize: Kunjit Dohutia\, Dept. of Mathematics\, recited 30 digits. \n \nAn Inter-departmental Quiz Competition was organized by the Department of Mathematics with 16 participating teams from various Departments. Each team is comprised of three members. Ms. Anindita Mahanta and Dr. Arjun Singh Chetry conducted the Quiz. A preliminary round with 10 questions was conducted and students were given 10 minutes to write all the answers. The first 5 teams were then selected for the Main Quiz. The Quiz was conducted in 5 rounds for a total of 250 points. Questions were from Science\, Mathematics\, General Awareness\, Entertainment\, and Sports backgrounds. \nThe result of the Quiz Competition is as follows: \n1st prize: Department of Physics \nBharat Sharma\, Shivam Sharma and Bornali Gogoi. \n2nd prize: Department of Chemistry  \nPalash Phukan\, Arjun Pradhan and Karanjit Konwar. \n3rd prize: \nKunjit Dohutia\, Dept. of Mathematics; Nisha Debnath\, Dept. of Botany and Ayushi Agarwal\, Little Star Senior Secondary School. \n  \nAPrize Distribution ceremony was then conducted and prizes were awarded to the winners by Dr. Arun Chandra Dutta\, Vice Principal\, Digboi College\, Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, IQAC Coordinator\, and Dr. Jatindra Lahkar\, Dept. of Mathematics. They encouraged the participants and winners with their motivating and inspiring words. Further\, they inspired the students to take part in such intellectual enrichment activities in the future. Ms. Ayushi Agarwal\, Little Star Senior Secondary School was awarded a special prize of appreciation for her enthusiasm and participation in all the competitions. The prize was awarded to her by Dr. Jatindra Lahkar\, Dept. of Mathematics. The prizes of the Treasure Hunt Competition organized on the occasion of National Science Day on 28th Feb 2024 were distributed to the students by Dr. Pabitra Bharali\, IQAC Coordinator\, Digboi College. \n \nHimani Gurung\, Dept. of Physics\, 6th Semester has been recognized by Lions Club\, Digboi for her extraordinary performance in academics. She belongs to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society. She had been awarded a certificate and a one-time scholarship of Rs. 5000.00 only. DESCRIPTION:18th March 2024: \nA one day workshop on 3-D printing was organized jointly by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell\, IQAC\, Digboi College Career Counseling and Placement cell\, Department of Commerce & NEC under the PMdeviNE scheme on 18-03-2024 at the Seminar hall. A total of 55 participants from Commerce and Science belonging to 2nd\, 4th and 6th semester participated in the said workshop. The program started with the Principal Dr. Dip Saikia felicitating the two resource persons from Amtron. Prof.Mamta Juneja\, Department of Computer Science and Engineering\, Punjab University acted as resource person for the program on behalf of Amtron. She explained all the applications of 3- D printing and the avenues related to the field highlighting the entrepreneurial prospects for the youths in the near future. Mr. Nayan Deka\, Amtron Guwahati explained the various aspects of the upcoming field and the government initiatives for employment in this field. SUMMARY:Digboi College Hosts Insightful Yoga Program
DESCRIPTION:28th May 2024: \nIn a bid to emphasize the relevance of yoga in contemporary times\, Digboi College organized a noteworthy program on the importance of yoga. The event\, which took place in the college auditorium\, was a collaborative effort by Human Value Development Sub-Committee and Yoga Meditation Centre\, in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Digboi College. \nDr. Dip Saikia\, the Principal of Digboi College\, presided over the program as the chairperson. Sukhamoy Nath\, a renowned Yoga Guru from Digboi\, graced the occasion as the guest of honour. The keynote address was delivered by Dibyajyoti Deka\, an esteemed faculty member of the Indian Yoga Culture and Yoga Therapy Centre\, Guwahati\, and Chairman of Yogesvara Sansthan\, Guwahati. \n  \nThe program drew an enthusiastic crowd\, with over 150 students in attendance\, alongside numerous teachers\, showcasing the growing interest and dedication to yoga within the academic sphere. The event underscored the significance of integrating yoga into daily life\, particularly in managing stress and enhancing overall well-being in today’s fast-paced world. \nDr. Saikia\, in his opening remarks\, highlighted the pivotal role of yoga in fostering mental and physical health. After that\, the Resource Person\, Dibyajyoti Deka elaborated on the therapeutic benefits of yoga\, advocating for its inclusion in mainstream health and education systems. \nThe program was well-received by participants\, who engaged actively in the discussions and demonstrations.
