DESCRIPTION:11th February 2023:  The Department of Physics Celebrated the 8th International day of Women and Girls in Science in a befitting manner at the seminar Hall in the presence of students and faculty members. At the outset Gayatri Thapa\, (B.Sc.6th semester Physics Honours) described the significance of the day. This was followed by Debangshee Paul (B.Sc. 6th Semester) giving a comprehensive account of Madam Curie\, the iconic scientist and Nobel Laureate. \n\nAfter this Dr. Rashmi Patowary (H.o.D) gave a presentation on the Indian women Scientists. SUMMARY:CELEBRATING INDIA’S G20 PRESIDENCY
DESCRIPTION:ONE-DAY SYMPOSIA ON PRODUCTIVITY\, GREEN GROWTH AND SUSTAINABILITY: CELEBRATING INDIA’S G20 PRESIDENCY \n13th February 2023:  On the occasion of National Productivity Week ( February 12 to 18)\, the Department of Commerce\, Digboi College has taken an initiative to observe this week on 13th of February\,2023 to enhance the level of productiveness among the students. This initiative has been undertaken by the Training and Placement Cell\, Department of Commerce\, in association with IQAC\, Digboi College\, and the Assam Productivity Council. \nThis\, one day symposia was held in the conference hall of the college\, with a gathering of about 90 students. The special guest invited were Prof. Dr. Amalesh Bhowal\, Professor\, DoC\, Assam University (Diphu) Campus as the resource person; B.P Bakshi\, Chairman\, Assam Productivity Council; and Dr. Jacob Konwar\, Asst. Prof.\, Dept. Of Commerce\, D.H.S.K Commerce College. The occasion was initiated with a felicitation ceremony to all the respective dignitaries on the Dias with a Fulam Gamusa and with a Borgeet performed by the students of the commerce department. The Head of the Institution \,Digboi College\, Dr Dip Saikia addressed the gathering with his welcoming speech\, followed by the Head\, Department of Commerce\, Dr Deborshee Gogoi . The Chairman\, Assam Productivity Council\, B.P Bakshi began his talk with the significance of productivity by permeating the importance of innovation to it. Then the resource person\, Professor Dr. Amalesh Bhowal took up the event by enlightening the gathering with the knowledge on the productivity; the concept on green growth and sustainability. The last spokesperson for the event was Dr. Jacob Konwar who tried to conclude the occasion by prioritising the composition of the preceding speakers. \n    \nTowards the end\, \, Dr. Samrat Bharadwaj \, Assistant Professor\, Department of Commerce\, Digboi College\, gave the vote of thanks to the respective dignitaries for inspiring the conference hall and the event was winded up with a group snapshot. SUMMARY:Educating Youth on Gender Identity
DESCRIPTION:  \n16th Februay 2023: \nA Talk on ‘Educating Youth on Gender Identity’ was organised by the Dept. of English\, in association with Internal Complaint Committee and IQAC\, Digboi College on 16-02-2023 at the College auditorium. The talk\, delivered by Rituparna Neog\, Founder-Director\, Akam Foundation: towards equality\, an intersectional queer feminist\, a social activist\, queer rights activist\, story-teller and a poet\, was attended by an overwhelming number of students from the college and a large number of teaching faculty. Rituparna deliberated upon how gender and sex is assigned at birth\, the societal expectations placed on individuals\, the complex ways that gender is institutionalized in society and how gender cannot be confined to a binary and\, also\, how the deviation from the established norms and societal expectations poses challenges to the individuals concerned. She talked about the various initiatives she was actively involved in and called upon the college community to facilitate a gender neutral washroom @nomoreholdingmypee\, so that students with different gender identities do not come across untoward incidents. Queries and questions from the audience during the interaction session\, were ably addressed by Rituparna. The event was hosted by Baby Ritu Phukan\, from the Dept. of English\, who introduced the speaker to the audience. Deepa Sarma Borthakur\, Chairperson of the Internal Complaint Committee\, spoke about how a discourse on issues of gender identity was the need of the hour. SUMMARY:Great Backyard Bird Count : Experts from e-Bird India & Bird Count India
DESCRIPTION:  \nDepartment of Zoology conducts Great Backyard Bird Count \n17th February 2023:  Department of Zoology\, Digboi College conducted bird counts at their campus in collaboration with eBird India and Bird Count India in the morning hours of 17/02/2023. Mr. Rajib Rudra Tariang\, Head\, Dept. of Zoology\, takes the initiative to conduct the 4 days campus bird count in the morning along with the students of Digboi College from 17th to 20th February 2023. On the day\, about 40 species of birds were sighted\, with 92 individuals in the entire survey. Dr. Pragnesh Patel of Dadra and Naga Haveli\, a famous birder of India who is also a professional medical doctor\, was the key resource person for the students who delivered a fruitful lecture. Mr. Rajib Rudra Tariang guided the students during the bird count and the team of experts. Mr. Saswat Mishra\, another birder of Bird Count India residing at Dadar and Naga Haveli\, who is an Electrical Engineer and an M. Tech. Student have also guided the students in the field. Further\, Mr. Pallav Pranjol Sarma of Guwahati\, Mr. Debojit Phukan of Tinsukia\, and Mr. Aovick Das Gutpa of Kaziranga were also present. Some of the unique birds sighted and photographed are the Barred Cuckoo Dove\, Short-Billed Minivet\, Longtailed Monivet\, Vernal Hanging Parrot\, White-throated Fantail\, Hair-crested Drongo\, Collared Treepie\, Cinereous Tit\, Pygmy Cupwing\, Pin-striped Tit Babler\, Verditer Flycatcher\, Ruby-cheeked Sunbird\, Streaked Spiderhunter\, etc. \n  \nজয়তু ডিগবৈ মহাবিদ্যালয়\, জয় আই অসম\, জয় হিন্দ |
